Reflection
My mood board is a representation of my current mindset, which describes my current ambitions as a young adult preparing to enter the real world that’s run by one of the strongest entities in the world – Money. Money makes the world go ’round. Money talks. “plata o plomo (Money or bullets)” – Pablo Escobar. “There is no nobility in poverty, I’ve been a rich man and a poor man and I choose rich every fucking time” Jordan Belfort. The mood board encompasses those greedy emotions that a teenager as myself may have at any part of their young lives that has stemmed from a plethora of references to pop culture and from real world circumstances such as a distinct lack of luxury, which is highly desired at this point.
With the motivations behind the project out of the way, we can focus on the specific details within in it. Each individual picture has to deal with money in one way or another. The color scheme is a combination of bright colors with green being the dominant color. Green is the color most closely correlated to money. The other bright colors such as blue and yellow are used to resemble the vibrant and bright lifestyle that an abundance of money can provide. The fonts used all come from Money magazine and is plastered all over the board the same way a celebrity might spread their hundred dollar bills on a table. Not only that, the font is in a sophisticated font as well in order to convey the message that money is professional and involves business. The large flashy fonts of the middle pictures portrays the making of money as extravagant, popping into your face as something you might want to obtain.
As said before, the photos all involve money. The one toward the top left carries a double meaning as the interests of the man are placed right in front of him with the figure of women carrying a newspaper of the stock market on her back. These are two interests that I can relate to. Additionally, the two pictures in the bottom left depict the type of lifestyle that one could have with an abundance of money. Being able to travel or be your own boss are two attainable assets that money can provide. There are two pictures toward the middle of the board emphasizing the process of being responsible with your money and saving it accordingly. This is a major aspect as one of the messages advocated in the poster is being able to make and save money in the right, legal, and responsible fashion. There is a small story on how teens can become literate in finance, which is extremely important as the school system fails to provide this. No one can become a millionaire without being able to write out a check first.
One of the main aspects I wanted to avoid when designing this poster was ignoring unnecessary bragging or boasting. There aren’t any fancy cars, shining jewelry, or fancy clothes on it. The poster advocates making money in a smart way in order to better your future rather than making money to brag and waste it all on materialistic objects. Investing in stocks, planning for retirement, and creating your our business are concepts that are focused on here rather than the superfluous ones.
